Elodie’s story, though close to impossible to sermise, stuck me as one of triumph over what was undoubtedly a bad hand to be dealt mentally. She has struggled with addiction and deep patches of bitter sadness. When I met her, however, she was in the process of taking her life into her own hands, moving countries and finding the things that bring her fulfilment. Her story now serves as a beacon of hope for those who may feel hopeless.

Alfrien

If ever there was a symbol for perseverance in passion, it would be Alfrien. Soon after walking into his film shop in Bogota, he told me with such joy in his eyes how he has been operating this camera shop for over 50 years, since he was only 20 years old. The majority of that time, his country lived in a permanent state of unrest and civil conflicts. What events fell upon his eyes? How many memories has he seen come alive? As he curated through tens of thousands of personal archives. Is this what has kept his life from spite? What has kept his spirit so bright?
